Support Energy Justice in DC

We passed the Clean Energy DC Act for 100% clean electricity and more.

Now it must be implemented in a strong and fair way! DC’s transition to clean energy must protect the health and welfare of our residents — especially low-income communities. Less pollution gives us cleaner air; investment in energy efficiency saves money; and promoting renewables brings clean, domestic energy to residents. Learn more about the Clean Energy DC Act here.

Dear DC Council,

Last year, we passed the Clean Energy DC Act for 100% clean electricity and more. Now it must be implemented in a strong and fair way!

DC’s transition to clean energy must protect the health and welfare of our residents — especially low-income communities. Less pollution gives us cleaner air; investment in energy efficiency saves money; and promoting renewables brings clean, domestic energy to residents.

For these reasons, I urge you to implement the Clean Energy DC Act that fights for a more sustainable and just city by calling on the DC government to:

- Ensure that 100% of DC’s electricity comes from renewable sources by the year 2032 and that Pepco is meeting and reporting on its necessary benchmarks

- Prioritize funding projects that would benefit low-income communities through the  DC Green Bank like efficiency for affordable housing, energy bill assistance, workforce initiatives, and more

-Ensure that efficiency standards are crafted in a way that will not raise prices on low-income residents

- Require the DC Sustainable Energy Utility to direct funding to expand solar in the District, particularly to low-income residents

- Create the vehicle excise tax incentivizing fuel efficient vehicles by the established deadline of January 1, 2020

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
