Methane leaks from pipelines make so-called “natural” gas comparable to coal in its warming potential. In the midst of a climate crisis, fossil fuel interests continue to push for the expansion of fossil gas infrastructure like the Mountain Valley Pipeline and Virginia Ripoff Project. While we work to dismantle the fossil fuel industry, we must ensure that existing infrastructure is subject to the strictest possible suite of regulation.

That’s why we’re supporting the Biden Administration’s new rules aimed at reducing methane leaks, which could eliminate 1 million tons of methane emissions by 2030, or the equivalent of emissions from 5.6 million cars.

We now have the opportunity to submit comments on the proposed strengthened methane leak controls for new and existing gas pipelines. Fossil fuel companies are going to do all they can to weaken and stop these regulations, so we need to show our support.

Join CCAN, Appalachian Voices, and the POWHR Coalition on Monday, August 14, at 8:00pm ET / 5pm PT for a virtual comment writing party. We only have until August 16 to get our comments in, so RSVP today to receive the Zoom link!
