Gas is dirty, dangerous, and expensive — and it’s holding D.C. back.

We’ve seen gas explosions destroy homes. We know gas stoves pollute the air in our kitchens. And every year, gas companies raise rates to prop up outdated infrastructure — while families struggle to keep up with bills.

It doesn’t have to be this way. We have cleaner, safer, and more affordable electric options right now. And methane gas is one of the worst climate pollutants out there — fueling extreme weather and global instability.

It’s time for D.C. to break free from fossil fuels and lead the way to a cleaner, healthier future. Let’s tell our leaders: we want a just, affordable, all-electric transition — starting now.

Sign the petition today.

It is the responsibility of our District government to keep D.C. residents safe, healthy, and prosperous. This means access to affordable, reliable, and safe energy. The District has already taken inspiring leadership by setting a goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions and reach carbon neutrality by 2045.

We, the undersigned, demand a just and equitable energy transition from methane gas to electricity. To achieve this transition, we urge our District government to:

  • Ensure Energy Affordability
D.C. leaders  must keep energy affordable for everyday people by rejecting any unnecessary proposed rate increases.

  • Expand Access to Electrification
D.C. must prioritize existing resources and create additional resources to make electrification affordable and accessible to all DC residents.
