The Endangered Species Act has been a bedrock environmental law for over 50 years, and has rescued iconic American animal and plant species from extinction. But now, the Department of Interior is proposing several rules to narrow the law's scope and open precious habitats to extractive industries. We can't let the Trump Administration sacrifice America's precious ecosystems for polluting industry profits. Sign our petition before the December 22nd deadline to tell them not to weaken the Endangered Species Act!

To the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service,
We, the undersigned, strongly urge you to rescind the proposed rules to narrow the scope of the Endangered Species Act. Animals, plants, and people depend on these ecosystems to thrive, and thanks to the Endangered Species Act, our nation has made fantastic progress to bring iconic American species, like the bald eagle, back from the brink of extinction. However, these four proposed rules from the Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service to alter would sacrifice these critical and irreplaceable habitats— upon which America's treasured animal and plants species depend— for extractive industrial activities.
We strongly condemn the Trump Administration's moves to reduce the scope of the Endangered Species Act. Eliminating the blanket 4(d) rule, rolling back the Endangered Species Act’s Section 7 interagency consultation regulations, incorporating economic and political considerations in designating critical habitats, and narrowing how the “foreseeable future” is interpreted won't protect our treasured American ecosystems – it will enable and encourage their destruction. Taken together, it is clear that through four proposed rules, the Trump Administration intends to allow industries to make massive profits without any government oversight or public accountability. With four out of five Americans favoring the Endangered Species Act and its protections, these moves go explicitly against the will of the American people.
Rescinding the protections of the Endangered Species Act would constitute a major land grab for corporations whose extractive industries will worsen public health, release greenhouse gas emissions, and decimate priceless American landscapes. We demand that the Trump Administration put life before profit and preserve the Endangered Species Act.
Sincerely,
