Dear Virginia Commonwealth University Administration,
We desire a public transit system that integrates all members of the community in all locations. At the moment, it is intermittent and less convenient to work with, depending on the place of residence. We are requesting an improved and dependable bus service, bus stops that are safe and well-maintained, and routes that will enable people to access work, school, and other vital destinations, especially those who live in underserved areas.
Simultaneously, we do not want the improvements to be made at the expense of the already struggling neighborhoods. The basis of transit changes must consider the needs of the riders and must strive to achieve fairness throughout the entire city. The students and staff of VCU rely upon the benefits that GRTC provides, and we urge VCU to reinvest and strengthen its partnership with GRTC to ensure higher quality bus service.
VCU students rely heavily on public transportation to get to class, work, and other places around Richmond, yet current funding and support for the GRTC bus system do not fully meet their needs. We call on Virginia Commonwealth University to invest more resources into GRTC in order to improve reliability, expand routes, and ensure safer, more accessible transportation for all students. By strengthening this partnership, VCU can help reduce transportation barriers, promote sustainability, and support student success both on and off campus.
Signing and supporting our petition would lead to lots of changes to Richmond's public transit, and the improvements would cause students to be more compelled to use a system that is safe and serves the community. Having VCU invest once again in GRTC would allow for a great deal of helpful improvements and ensure the safest service for students and other riders.
