Did you know that gas companies are currently allowed to make YOU pay for their unnecessary new gas lines? That’s right, something called “gas line extension allowances” (LEAs) socialize the cost of new gas distribution lines across all ratepayers. Maryland has been making moves to stop this terrible practice, and the Public Service Commission (PSC) was all set to finalize regulations ending LEAs. Once finalized, BGE customers will save over $1 billion in the next decade that would have otherwise been charged to cover new gas lines!
But on Friday, after being lobbied intensely by the gas lobby, the agency delayed these commonsense new regulations.
This is unacceptable! Email PSC Chairman Kumar Barve right now and let him know there is robust support for ending gas extension allowances.
